Perform these safety checks on your garage door system. If any test fails, consult a professional for repairs.
Disconnect the door from the opener so it can be operated manually.
Lift the door to about the halfway point, then let go.
The door should hold its position. If it starts to drop, it’s unbalanced—contact a service technician.

Place a block of wood or brick on the floor along the door’s closing path.
Activate the door to close.
When the door makes contact with the object, it should immediately reverse direction. If it doesn’t, call a technician.
Locate the two photo sensors near the bottom of the garage door.
Ensure the sensors are aligned properly; they should be illuminated when correctly positioned. Adjust if necessary.
Close the door and wave an object across the sensor beam. The door should reverse without delay.
Test at least three different spots along the beam’s path.
